During the last month of postings I was taken aback by how many people reached out to let me know that they appreciated what I was doing and even asked if they could repost or copy and paste the posts so that they could share it on their own pages. I was also taken aback by the very few people who got in touch with me or commented on the posts of friends who reposted to share their displeasure. There seemed to be a running theme in their responses to the post which is summarized in the first DM I received from a high school acquaintance who was not happy with what I had been posting. The message read:

“Listen, can I say that your Trump posts are very one sided. Why don’t you also post about the good things he is doing?”

It struck me that he and others who posted similar sentiments on friends’ pages, and are major members of the Cult of the Mango Moron, looked at the lists that were posted and saw only negative. This is especially because the items listed are done without commentary or editorial and there are some items on the lists that I would view as positive (very few mind you). So for them to perceive the list as wholly bad tells me something staggering: Deep down, these Trump cultists know that what he has been doing isn’t good. That they are on the wrong side of history. However, instead of admitting that they continue to argue that the posts are “unfair to President Trump,” because as we know in Trump World, telling the truth about what Trump is doing or criticizing him in any way is “being unfair to him” in his and their eyes. They engage in mental gymnastics to try to justify their position. It has to be draining to be constantly so delusional and in denial. 

My lingering question is: When does the fog lift? When does the brainwashing come undone and reality set in? At some point for a good number of cult members there is a bridge too far or a moment of clarity that snaps them awake. There are members of the Manson Family and Jonestown who were able to snap back to reality, even those who committed the worst atrocities in the name of their “messiah.” When will this happen for the acolytes of Thulsa Dumb?
